How to get a Bible School or Seminary Scholarship

By Samuel

Did you know that it is possible to get a scholarship to help with the costs of your theological studies? Check out the tips below on how to get a Bible School or Seminary Scholarship!

1. Have clear goals

  • Before you apply for a scholarship for Bible school, know why you are applying for one, and what you hope to achieve with the qualification you get. Do you have a long-term plan for where you want to work or serve after you finish school? If you have the answers to this and other questions relating to your goals, you will be on the right path.

2. Search on scholarship sites

  • Do scholarship sites have Bible School and Seminary scholarships? Yes, they do! Go through the listings on two or three scholarship sites, and make your choice. If you see a link to the institution offering the scholarship, open it to find out more about the institution and the courses offered.

3. Know the timeline for the scholarship application process

  • As you plan how to get a Bible School or Seminary scholarship, remember to take note of all the important dates relating to the actual scholarship opportunities you are looking into. Note the application deadline, interview dates, document submission dates, and reporting date.

4. Award restrictions

  • Some awards have restrictions attached to them. These include nationality, level of study, courses studied previously, etc. Take note of these so that you do not make a mistake during application, thus jeopardizing your chances of getting a good scholarship.

5. Apply within your current institution before you search elsewhere

  • If you are already enrolled in a Bible School or Seminary, the best place to start looking for a scholarship is within the institution. Get to know which faculties offer scholarships, when they are offered, and if you are eligible to apply before you start looking for opportunities outside there.

6. Only apply for scholarships that you qualify for

  • If the scholarship you are eyeing states that you need to have certain qualifications, make sure you have them, as well as all other requirements. Don’t risk applying for scholarships that you don’t qualify for, as such an action shows that you don’t follow instructions.

7. Plan ahead

  • When figuring out how to get a Bible School or Seminary scholarship, you also need to factor in your survival costs in case the scholarship only covers tuition fees, is a partial tuition waiver, or is only valid for a short period. Plan ahead so that by the time the scholarship period is over, you have enough funds to complete the course. Also, find a way to cover your personal expenses if the scholarship does not cover them.

8. Prepare yourself well

  • Before you apply for the scholarship, look at your resume and ask yourself if you are worth that scholarship you want to apply for. How is your academic performance? Are you a disciplined and exemplary student? Are you active in your church, ministry, and community? Make sure all your achievements and strengths are evident in your application, and that you have documents to support the information in your application. Present yourself as an individual who will be an asset to the institution.

9. Choose the scholarship source wisely

  • Did you know that there are several church organizations who give scholarships to needy students every year? Yes, there are, and it is your job to look for them so that you can make an application. You can also target faculties within specific universities that offer theological studies – they may have some in-house scholarships available.

10. Follow the application instructions to the letter

  • A simple mistake like not arranging your application forms and documents in the prescribed order can cost you a scholarship. To avoid this and many other possible mistakes, read through the instructions for application before you apply, as you apply, and after you apply, to make sure everything is in order.

As you think about how to get a Bible School or seminary scholarship, remember that the process is similar to that of any other scholarship, only that you are hoping to pursue a course that will help you with your ministry. All the best as you look for the institution that matches your calling, faith, and values!
