Christian Ministries Children Kenya
- Awana Kenya provides a way for churches in Kenya to mentor young people by reaching kids where they are at and accompanying them on their faith journey. Awana provides mentorship and discipleship for young people through equipping of local church leaders to:
- be effective mentors
- be bold enough to share the gospel
- use proven training methods
- change the lives of the children in their churches.
- At present, there are three couples in Kenya serving the churches that have Awana clubs, a total of 2586 clubs across Kenya. These couples help the churches to implement the program correctly by training the children’s ministry leaders.
- This Christian humanitarian organization empowers the people of Africa to survive the HIV/AIDS pandemic that has ravaged the region.
- In Kenya, the Kids for School project targets orphans and vulnerable children who are living with guardians. Each child is given a female breeding goat and uniform. This goat benefits the guardian family by providing added nutrition from its milk. The child is taught goat husbandry, and with time, is able to create a source of income from the goat. As a result, he or she becomes an asset to the guardian family. The Kids for School program, also called the ‘Goats and Uniform’ program, is one of the more innovative Christian ministries for children in Kenya.
- Kids Alive International extends Christ’s love to orphans in Kenya through the provision of education, shelter, nutritious meals and medical care. The program runs in five children’s home and one school, namely Karundas Children’s home, Nyamarambe Children’s home, Simba Scholars, Hall Mead School, Kids Alive Boys’ Home and MItaboni Children’s Home.
- Kids Alive runs the Keeping Families Together program in Kenya, which helps at-risk children who have at least one parent or grandparent. This program ensures that the child remains in his or her home, by providing education, healthcare, essential clothing, one meal a day and other basic needs. In some instances, the adult relative also receives healthcare and assistance to start an income-generating project.
- Agape Children’s Ministry rescues children from the street and takes them through a five-stage reintegration process that results in them being returned to their families. Agape has been sharing the Good News of Christ with children on the streets of Kisumu town since 1993.
- This ministry rescues street children, redeems them (shares the love of Christ), rehabilitates them, and reintegrates them with their families. The rehabilitation process includes meeting the deepest needs of the children and equipping the families to care for their children at home.
- The Chariots for Hope Program aims to honor God by providing for, nurturing and loving orphaned and vulnerable children. This program is one of the Christian ministries for children in Kenya that leads and sustains holistically healthy children’s’ homes.
- Chariots for Hope seeks to give disadvantaged children opportunities and hope that will result in them developing into followers of Jesus Christ, exemplary citizens and leaders. This initiative supports homes that subscribe to the same values as it does, i.e. integrity, compassion, respect, excellence, holistic service and Christ-centeredness.
- This program currently works with Ogada Children’s Home, Kaptagat Children’s Home, Kitui Baby Home, Maai Mahiu Children’s Home, Mulango Children’s Home, Mukaa Children’s Home, Mahiga Children’s Home and Mogogosiek Baby Home.
- Youth for Christ is a Christian movement that works with young people all over the world, giving them the opportunity to become followers of Christ.
- In Kenya, YFC works with churches and other like-minded partners to raise followers of Jesus.
- The ministries currently active in Kenya include:
- Berean Bible clubs in schools held weekly
- Taraja Home for former street boys (focuses on education, discipleship, and vocational training)
- Evangelistic music teams
- Scripture Union works in more than 130 countries around the world, presenting the Good News of Christ to children, youth, and families. SU facilitates several spiritual nurture programs for children, which involve teaching Biblical truths in a child-friendly manner.
- The children are also taught life skills and values that help them know God, grow in God, and serve God in their church, schools, families, and communities.
- SU engagements include Interschool rallies, Bible clubs, holiday camps, vacation bible schools, and programs for pastoral instruction.
- The Children for Christ (C4C) program is an outreach ministry seeking to reach children with God’s word and bring them to salvation in Christ. The main target group is children aged between 4 and 14 years old.
- Biblica targets churches in slums and rural areas that lack the necessary resources for children’s ministry, and intervenes by providing teacher training and the ‘Bible Adventures’ for Vacation Bible School at no cost.
- Biblica also provides a Sunday school curriculum designed to equip children’s ministry pastors and workers to teach the Word of God effectively.
- BethanyKids first started operations at AIC Kijabe Hospital in 2004. This compassionate Christian mission transforms the lives of African children with disabilities and surgical conditions through paediatric surgery, rehabilitation, spiritual ministry, public education and training of health professionals. BethanyKids gives hope to children and families who have nowhere else to turn for medical support by providing highly subsidized care. The staff and surgeons at this institution are committed to pointing people back to a loving God through medical intervention and giving children previously viewed as worthless a chance to succeed in life.
- Mully Children’s Family Home and School was founded in 1989 with the aim of rescuing and rehabilitating children who are orphaned, abused, neglected, abandoned and desperate. Both institutions are located in Machakos County. Children who join the home are provided with basic needs of food, shelter and clothing, as well as medical care, education, mentorship, parental love and spiritual guidance. The spiritual and mentorship programs offered by MCF rehabilitate the children through positive character transformation, leading them to a deeper relationship with God. Each individual is transformed into someone who can be trusted, relied on, and respected.
- Under the able leadership of Dr. Charles Mulli, what started as a single home has expanded to five centers in Kenya and one in Tanzania.
Christian ministries for children in Kenya all have one unifying purpose – bringing the children of Kenya to Christ and equipping to be leaders of integrity within the community.
