Education Action

By Samuel

We run a number of programmes focused on education in former war torn countries in Africa and the Middle East. We also run a smaller number of education programmes for refugees from war living in the UK.

Our programmes try out new approaches to education in different countries, working in partnership with in-country local organisations. We also work with partner organisations in the UK.

Because the approaches we try out are innovatory we put a great deal of time and energy into monitoring and evaluating their effectiveness. We also try to disseminate the lessons arising from our programmes during the life of the programme not just at the end.

School Change in Angola

Focuses on the introduction of a new methodology for school change that we developed during 2007. Began in 2008 and will finish in 2012. Our partners are the Centre for International Education Research at the University of Birmingham and Youth Association for Solidarity and IBIS in Angola. Further information from Richard Germond at richard.germond@education-action.org

Inclusion in Sierra Leone

Centres on the development and implementation of activities to promote inclusion and children’s rights both inside and outside the classroom. Started in 2005 and ends in 2010. Our partners are the Community Animation and Development Organisation and the Sierra Leone Teachers Union. Further information from Richard Germond at richard.germond@education-action.org

Family learning in Sierra Leone

Family learning is a well tried and tested approach in developed countries; however, it is relatively untried and undocumented in developing countries. A new initiative in Sierra Leone, starting in 2008 and running until 2011, will introduce family learning, in order to tackle educational goals and motivational needs for both children and adults. Further information from Leni Wild at leni.wild@education-action.org

Girls’ and Womens’ Education in Northern Uganda

Focuses on the development of girls’ and womens’ education in Northern Uganda with a particular emphasis on family learning. Started in 2007 and ends in 2010. Our partners are Literacy and Basic Education Uganda. Further information from Leni Wild at leni.wild@education-action.org
