A Christian Drug Rehabilitation Program
1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
The Celebrate Recovery program is a Christian Drug Rehabilitation Program employed in almost 17,000 churches and attended by over 700,000 people worldwide. The program is God’s instruments to heal those who have been broken, cure those who have been diseased, and lead back home those who have been astray.
Celebrate Recovery program, along with the Purpose Driven Church curriculum, were founded at Saddleback Church, an evangelical Christian megachurch located in Lake Forest, California, in the southern Orange County, affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. Saddleback Church was founded in 1980 by Senior Pastor Rick Warren. Aside from the main church in Lake Forest, it has nine other campuses in Anaheim (Spanish), Anaheim, Corona, Irvine, Huntington Beach, Laguna Woods, Orange, Rancho Capistrano, and San Clemente. The multi-site church is ranking as eighth-largest church in the United States with nearly an average of 20, 000 attendees on a weekly basis.
In 1991, Pastor John Baker of Saddleback Church founded Celebrate Recovery Christian Drug Rehabilitation Program with the objective of overcoming habits like sex disorders and drug addictions through the twelve-step rehabilitation program focusing on the Christian principles. Since then, the program has been adopted in other churches and some prisons. In 2004, during the the Faith-Based and Community Initiative Conference, U.S. President George W. Bush praised the program for having been more effective among the many Christian Drug Rehabilitation Programs in the mainstream.
The Christian Drug Rehabilitation Program uses the twelve-step rehabilitation program focusing on the Christian principles like forgiveness, dedication, and redemption. Forgiveness for the recovering addict is a principle that will encourage them to seek pardon from those they have wronged as well as self-forgiveness, as part of the healing process. Dedication to the Christian way of life is the same journey as their dedication for the cause of their recovery. Above all, redemption is their fortitude to endure the time in seeking forgiveness and the effort of dedication while suffering the consequences of their past actions. Knowing that Jesus Christ is their ultimate savior, they can turn to Him anytime under any circumstances and they are sure that Jesus Christ will forgive them and accept them as His child no matter what happens.
One unique characteristic of the Celebrate Recovery program is that they do not require a patient to conform to a singleness of purpose declaration. In order for a patient to become a member, they do not need to qualify as a patient or as someone suffering of compulsive behaviors. There are no requirements for membership and anyone, who has desire to work the steps for healing, may attend this Christian Drug Rehabilitation Program.
This Christian Drug Rehabilitation Program rests its cores on the Twelve Steps and their Biblical implications and the Eight Recovery Principles based on the Beatitudes, devised by Saddleback Senior Pastor Rick Warren.
